Lake Country Defers On Gable Beach Plan

Mar 7, 2018 | 10:08 AM

Lake Country Council has backed off a plan that would have expanded public access to Carr’s landing lakefront.

The District wanted to sell a right-of-way at the end of Gable Road to private property owners and the use money from the sale to buy beachfront property on the south side of Coral Beach Park.

Mayor James Baker there are just too many people against it.

“So we’re going to try and get them to turn their energies towards our larger parks master plan that is part of our strategic plan on how to get more use of the lake shore.”

He hopes further discussions can come up with areas where people don’t think their neighbourhood parks are threatened.

“It’s pointless to upset so may people with something that they feel is not right.”

Mayor Baker says the focus will change now and opportunities will be found to get more people involved on an overall lake shore plan.

“We’ll have a group of Carr’s Landing residents meeting with us in town hall and porch meetings and planning to show Where that is our strategy.”

Last fall, more than 1500 people signed a petition against the Gable Road plan.

As for the property owners who were going to buy that right-of-way, Baker hopes they will get involved in future planning  as well.
