‘Cook-Off’ Proceeds Put To Good Cause

Mar 1, 2018 | 5:40 PM

Vernon’s Salvation Army is benefiting from a popular Winter Carnival event.

The Downtown Vernon Association has presented the social agency with a 950 dollar donation, after 450 people participated in the 9th annual Chili Cook-Off last month.

Dudley Coulter from the DVA says they donate 50 percent of the proceeds to a different non profit group each year on behalf of downtown businesses.

“We are happy to help whenever we can,” says Coulter, Events and Promotions Coordinator.

The donation will help with programming, food hampers and sending people for necessary treatments.

“We’d like to thank the DVA for their generous donation,” says Kristin Ford, Volunteer Coordinator at The Salvation Army. “All donations made in Vernon at The Salvation Army stay in our community.”

Ford noted that the local branch is currently seeking volunteers to help at the thrift store. Interested candidates should contact Kristin directly: Kristin_Ford@can.salvationarmy.org

Beach Radio was the sponsor of the Chili Cook-off which included different types of chili presented at Little Tex, Station BBQ, Eatology, Marten Brewpub, Naked Pig, Bean Scene and The Sprouted Fig.
