No Extra Water Release From RDNO Reservoirs
The Regional District of North Okanagan won’t be making any changes to how much water is released from its reservoirs in the Aberdeen Plateau.
The village of Lumby has requested early releases, to prevent possible flooding in the spring, given the above normal snow pack.
RDNO’s chief administrative officer David Sewell says flood control isn’t what the reservoirs are for.
“There is release of water going on right now which is preventing some of the buildup in the reservoirs. But the reservoirs, their design and location are intended for water supply, not flood control. The build of those reservoirs is to capture water for supply for when there isn’t rains and there isn’t water elsewhere available.”
