Coldest Night Event Provides Perspective

Feb 28, 2018 | 10:13 AM

People bundled up and braved the elements for the 6th annual Coldest Night of the Year event in Vernon.

The funds raised support the Upper Room Mission’s efforts to help people in need with meals and other services.

Co-executive director Lisa Anderson says the 200 participants walked 5 or 10 kilometres to learn more about what the less fortunate deal with.

“People were saying it puts things in perspective, like, ‘We get to go home and get into our warm beds, and we don’t have to worry about how we’re going to feed our family,'” Anderson tells CJIB News.

Anderson says the event has so far raised about 30-thousand dollars, with donations still being accepted until the end of March at www.cnoy.org.

The Mission serves an average of 350 meals a day to families, senors and individuals.
