WildSafe Not For RDNO

Feb 26, 2018 | 7:43 AM

The Regional District of North Okanagan has tentatively decided against full participation in the WildSafe BC program.

WildSafe was asking for 4100 dollars from the District to run the program in the region.

Board Chair Bob Fleming says other costs didn’t add up.

“Administration fees for setting up and operating a service could  be as much as four thousand dollars on a 4100 dollar service in terms of staff time and running through bylaws and the rest of organization.”

But Fleming says there may be a partial role for WildSafe.

” I think it’s more likely that it will be referred out to the communities and certainly the electoral areas are looking at it as a sort of an add-on potentially to our safe communities because we have a fellow working in safe communities that does some of this kind of work and is trained in WildSafe.”

Fleming says that person may be able to use some assistance in presentations in schools and such.

A final decision will be made at the next board meeting in March.
