Enderby Reviews Development Cost Charges

Feb 21, 2018 | 10:09 AM

The city of Enderby is revisiting how it manages Development Cost Charges.

Council has given two readings to a bylaw that aims to promote affordable housing by making it easier for developers to pay the charges.

“If somebody came along and said yeah we’re going to do a four lot sub-division and the DCC’s were, you know, seven thousand dollars per lot – 28 thousand, we basically set up a payment thing where they could build and complete and sell one house, make the payment on that and then move to the next one.”

Mayor Greg McCune says the actual dollar amount won’t change.

This change just makes it easier for builders to  sort of pay as you go.

“Even for larger, like a ten or eleven lot. If you’re going to do in phase one five lots this year and five lots next year it well it will be a lot more fun to shell out fourty thousand this year and fourty next year rather than come up with eighty right now.”

McCune says once the provincial government approves of that, the bylaw would come back for final reading and adoption.
