Ranch Manager, Councillor Extends Hospital Stay

The manager of the O’Keefe Ranch isn’t ready to leave hospital just yet.

Glen Taylor has been in care and rehab at Vancouver General since suffering a serious spinal injury at the ranch in October.

Taylor was left incapacitated after a drum he was picking up with a tractor at the ranch, fell on his head.

The Coldstream councillor says he was due to leave Wednesday, but has requested another week.

“I’m working on some shoulder injuries that I have right now, so I’ve undergone some Botox and cortisone treatments. I just want to get that activated before I leave here,” Taylor tells CJIB News.

Taylor would like to stay at the facility for another month, if they let him, in order to get stronger.

“This is kind of my job right now, just to get better, so I’m here for the duration, and if I can extend it out another month I would be happy because I think that’s what it’s going to take.”

Taylor says he continues to make progress in learning to walk again.

“I can walk with a set of ski poles. I just did a test and it was about a thousand metres I did, so that was a good run.”

Taylor is still taking part in Coldstream council meetings by phone.

“The District bought a conference phone and it works quite well. I can hear everything that’s going on. It’s been fun.”
