Vernon M-L-A Ponders NDP Budget

Feb 19, 2018 | 7:15 AM

The opposition Liberals are raising concerns about government over-spending on the eve of the NDP’s new budget.

Vernon Monashee MLA Eric Foster says Premier John Horgan is talking about historic investments in housing and child care.

He wonders how those will be paid for.

“The throne speech is what their long and sort term goals are, but there are some pretty hefty price tags on some of this stuff if they try to move it along quite quickly,” says Foster.

The MLA says the extra funding can really only come from two sources.

“One, you’ve got raise more money, and we know what they means. And the other is to go in the hole (debt).”

The right-wing Fraser Institute suggests a major boost in spending could threaten BC’s strong financial position.

Meantime, one of the NDP’s big election promises doesn’t look like it will be part of this budget.
