Figure Skaters Take Over Kal Tire Place

Feb 16, 2018 | 7:21 AM

You can see lots of young Olympic hopefuls at Vernon’s Kal Tire Place over the next three days.

The Vernon Figure Skating Club is hosting the Okanagan region championships until Sunday with no charge for admission.

Spokesperson Brandy Marshall says there will also be vendors on hand.

We have a company coming in — they do logos on shirts and we have Sweet Legs coming, along with our skate suppliers.”

Marshall says the Olympic figure skating events have given the participants extra motivation.

“I think it has, due to how well Canada has been doing. I think a lot of the girls in our club have been wathching it and getting alittle more excited about the competition.”

It’s the first time the club has hosted the event in 15 years, and 400 skaters are expected to take part.
