Council Wants Study Into BC Police Force

West Kelowna council wants more discussion about BC having it’s own provincial police force.

One of the city’s resolutions for the SILGA (Southern Interior Local Government Association) conference is for UBCM to lobby the province to undertake a business case for that.

Council says the current arrangement using the RCMP is no longer sustainable, resulting in escalating contract costs, unanticipated budget requests, and a lack of local priority setting.

Burning and Development

West Kelowna council is taking action after hearing from some residents concerned with burning trees and debris related to clearing for new development.

Council has asked staff to develop a report with recommendations on how to limit nuisance when burning takes place close to neighbourhoods.

2018 Priorities

West Kelowna council has adopted its 2018 Priorities which outlines the goals and objectives for the year.
Council’s priority categories include Economic Development, Infrastructure, and Service Delivery.
Operational priorities include construction of the Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant, road and sidewalk improvements, and building a new Multi-Use Dome with artificial turf field.

2018 Budget

West Kelowna is taking aimed at speeders in the city.
Council has agreed to spend 120-thousand dollars for two police reservists to focus on addressing speeding.
Council is also using over 116-thousand dollars in reserves to reduce the tax increase form 2.5%, to 2.18%.
Casa Loma Development Proposal

West Kelowna Council has given first reading to an Official Community Plan Amendment related to a comprehensive development on Campbell Road in Casa Loma.
The proposal involves a 7 hectare site, with an application to change the land use designation from Agricultural to Tourist Commercial, and to rezone.
The possible uses could include housing, an orchard, a winery and restaurant , or a marina-boat launch.

Boucherie Road Development

West Kelowna Council has postponed consideration of a Multiple Family and Hillside Development Permit to allow six single family homes and six duplexes.
The 2 hectare property is located in the South Boucherie neighbourhood, adjacent to the Mission Hill Winery.
Council wants further review related to form, character and site access.
