Club Eager To Open New Facility

Jan 26, 2018 | 5:00 PM

Members of the North Valley Gymnastics Club will soon be doing flips and other activities in a new facility.

The 600 member club has bought the former Vernon RV shop on 31st Street  — next to Chaser’s Bottle Depot — and is turning it into a gym.

“We’ve completely had to gut the whole thing, replace the roof, do all the electrical, build washrooms. We are doing a couple of additions on there and making a gym,” says board member Melissa Locke.

Locke says they hope to open the new venue by April, with a fundraiser underway for equipment.

The club is currently working out of a leased building on 45th Street.

“It’s very cramped, and the gymnasts can’t train properly because they don’t have proper running space. We don’t have a foam pit so that’s a safety concern. The competitive team actually has to travel to Kelowna to make use of their pit when they’re trying new moves,” adds Locke.

Local politicians will be given a tour of the old and new facilities on Saturday.

You can get more details about the fundraiser on the club’s website www.nvgym.com

“All of the members have been given forms and they are selling foam blocks for $5 each for our Fill the Pit campaign,” says Locke.
