Salvation Army Announces Christmas Campaign

The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Campaign kicks off on November 14th.

With a goal of 500 thousand dollars, the Army hopes to raise enough to meet the needs of a growing number of people seeking assistance at Christmas.

It says it is on par with the same number of hampers given out as last year but staff are helping more and working more with those who have mental health difficulties and addictions.

A change to this years hamper program sees Save On Foods gift cards being given out.

The value of the hampers will not change and will reflect on the gift card.

The Annual Kettle Drive runs from November 23rd to December 23rd at several locations and anyone who can donate their time two hours a day to staff a kettle would be appreciated.

The Kettle locations for this year are located at the following:

Alexanders
Butcher Boys
Buy Low
Canadian Tire
London Drugs
Superstore
Walmart
Save On Foods – Village Green
Save On Foods – Polson Park
Safeway – Downtown
Safeway – Vernon Square
Village Green Mall
Village Green Liquor Store
Vernon Viper Home Games throughout the month of December.

The shifts are 2 hours long between 11:00am-8:00pm, Monday-Saturday.

All shifts this year will be inside.

We will continue to have our Santa Toy Room and those with children and teens are able to pick gifts from that room.

Hamper Interview Days this year are: November 28, 29 and 30, 2017

Hamper Distribution days this year are: December 18, 19 and 20, 2017

We also have our Christmas Angel trees out this year at the following locations;

Arrow Day Spa
Nolans Pharmacy
Colour Time Ceramics
Teeter Totter Toys

At these locations, individuals or families can take an angel tree ornament from a location and buy for the age of the child/teen on the ornament.

This has been a great success in the past and we know it will be again this year.

Gifts bought for the angel tree can be dropped off at the location of the tree or at the Salvation Army House of Hope at 3303 32nd Ave.

The 40th Annual Realtor’s Food Drive, our biggest of the year, will take place on December 6, 2017.
