Nov 9, 2017 | 11:45 AM

UPDATE 11:45 am

Most of the transit routes in Greater Vernon are back up and running after earlier being suspended due to poor road conditions.

Jonathan Dyck with BC Transit says the operating company — First Canada — pulled the service this morning because drivers were having trouble with the icy conditions.

As of the last update, BC Transit says  all of the routes are now operating except for number 5 South Vernon which remains suspended.

Update 8:45 am Tom Mark

Road conditions in Vernon this morning have brought bus service to a standstill.

Jonathan Dyck with BC Transit says the operating company pulled the service because drivers were having trouble.

“They have transit supervisors and transit operators that report back to them about what road conditions are like on the different routes they are trying to run. So, sometimes it could be various roads that are the issue and especially arterial roads that could be the issue and so we look at their advice and they make that call  if service
should be suspended or if certain routes should be suspended. In this case they decided that all routes should be suspended until further notice.”

As soon as service is restored we’ll let you know.

Regional routes are still operational including route 60 Enderby, route 61 Lumby, and route 90 UBCO Connector (not servicing Okanagan College Vernon Campus

City works crews are out plowing and sanding the main routes.

Transit Buses are currently not running due to road conditions

A transit spokesperson says it is not so much the snow as it is the ice under the snow.

Bus drivers are having trouble coming to a stop at stop signs.

BC Transit apologizes to customers for the delay but says it is for safety concerns.

Customers are urged to check the BC Transit website for updates.

Kiss-FM will also be notified as soon as service is able to resume.
