Vernon Remembrance Day Service Expected To Be Busy

Another big crowd is expected for Vernon’s Remembrance Day ceremony this Saturday at Kal Tire Place.

Doug Ross, the City’s Recreation Services Director, says it’s the largest attended event in the building, with several thousand the last few years.

“The City of Vernon donates the facility each year for this event, and then the Legion takes care of putting on the ceremony itself,” says Ross.

People planning to attend the service are being encouraged to arrive early, and to car pool, if possible.

Ross says the available parking will be a bit less than normal due to the arena expansion project.

“There will be plenty of parking for Remembrance Day, we just want to make people aware that, due to the arena construction, not all of the spots that will eventually be available on the site, will be available because some of it’s being taken up by construction fencing,” Ross tells Kiss FM.

Disabled parking stalls are now located in the new parking lot along 43rd Avenue.

Due to the construction, the lower north player’s entrance is currently not as accessible as it has been in the past. The public is encouraged to drop off those individuals with mobility issues at the main entrance on the east side of the facility before proceeding to a parking stall.

There will also be parking lot attendants on site, helping out.

The doors will open at 9:30 am with the service starting at 10:15.
