Temperature Record Set In Vernon

The early blast of winter is setting records in the province.

Vernon is no exception.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says the overnight temperature was the coldest in more than one hundred years.

“Yeah it was minus 16.4 last night. That’s the current number that we have what we had last night. The old record was minus 12.8

Lundquist says it’s never been that cold on November 6th in 120 years.

He expects a record for November 7th will be set tonight.

“For tonight coming up the record low is only minus 10.2 which is the weakest one in the month. So unless we cloud up I’m pretty sure we’re going to be breaking that one as well.”

Lundquist says it is a different pattern for this early in November.

“Sometimes, we don’t even get that kind of temperature at Christmas time. I’d say we’re at least three weeks early for this type of weather:”

The good news is, the weather pattern is changing.

“So it’s going to gradually start to warm up and we’re looking at highs of probably about 5 or six degrees for the upcoming weekend with lows in the zero to plus 2 range. So, this should start to melt out and it’ll go back to more fall like conditions.”
