City Working To Clear Roads
It’s been a busy last couple days for municipal snow crews.
The City of Vernon hopes to have most city streets plowed and sanded by Saturday morning.
The clearing is done on a priority basis, with arterials, collectors, bus routes, school zones and select problem areas getting first priority.
All remaining roads are next on the list followed by lanes and cul de sacs.
Sidewalks and walkways use a similar priority system and are maintained in compliance of the Snow and Ice policy.
Residents and businesses are asked to remove snow and ice form sidewalks bordering their property.
“When shovelling sidewalks and driveways avoid piling snow on travel lanes, storm drains, fire hydrants or bus pickup/drop-off areas,” says a City release
Depending on the volume of a snow event, response times will vary to allow work crews the appropriate time to respond.
“Although most city streets will have been plowed and sanded by Saturday morning, drivers should be aware that melting snow and freezing rain could cause icy sections. Please drive cautiously and allow yourself more time to get to your destination.”
