Will The Rain Impact Fireworks?

Oct 31, 2017 | 10:03 AM

It’s a scary looking weather forecast for Halloween night.

The trick or treaters could get a bit wet with periods of rain to start this afternoon and continue tonight.

What that means for the fireworks will depend on each community.

BX Swan Lake fire chief Bill Wacey says they still plan to go ahead.

“Unless it’s a torrential downpour, which we don’t normally get, but if it is a torrential downpour then we probably will cancel it, but I will make that call by 4:30 or 5 pm, but as it stands right now, it’s a go.”

Wacey says the rain doesn’t has too much impact on the visual impact of the fireworks.

“It’s all phosphorus, so that stuff will even burn on water. We’ve had some pretty spectacular shows where it’s just kind of quit raining, and you’ve got the background of the clouds in there, so it actually works out pretty cool,” says Wacey, who was helping to set up the site behind the BX Swan Lake firehall this morning.

There is no show in Coldstream this year due to the flood damage to the Kal Lake Pier, but fireworks are planned in Lavington, Lumby, Cherryville, Armstrong, Falkland, Enderby and Oyama.
