Hotels, Restaurants, Homes Part of Vernon Growth

Oct 26, 2017 | 6:00 AM

Vernon has been busy with new construction this year — especially on the residential side.

Economic development manager Kevin Poole says the city has seen 90 million dollars in building permit value to the end of September, with over half of that ($50 million) for single family homes.

Predator Ridge has been one of the busiest areas for new building activity in Vernon this year.

The city says 34 new homes have been started there, worth 18 million dollars.

Mayor Akbal Mund says on the commercial side, the new Four Points Sheraton and Best Western Premier hotels are planned for Anderson Way.

“I don’t think they’ll be in the ground this year. I think you’re looking at starting in March or April because you don’t want to be in the ground in the middle of winter,” Mund tells Kiss FM.

Mund says it hasn’t been as busy for commercial developments this year, but there is a new Mr. Mikes going on at the former Pantry site on the highway.

“It is booming. Growth is happening in Vernon. Just look at the population. It was hocking last year last year when we were told we were over 40,000 people,”  says Mund.

The mayor says there’s also applications in the works for several multi-family developments in and around the City Centre.
