GVAC Considers Rail Trail Amenities

Oct 20, 2017 | 9:22 AM

Greater Vernon Advisory Committee members are trying to work out a vision for amenities for the north end of the Okanagan Rail Trail.

GVAC Chair Juliette Cunningham says it’s not to early to talk about the basics.

“In terms of washrooms and some fencing issues that we need to put in place to protect the trail.”

The big question is how to pay for such things as washrooms and garbage cans other necessities.

” We’re going took to do some consultation with different stakeholder groups in the community and also get some input from the public to get some ideas of what level of amenities they want along the trail.”

Cunningham says it may be different in each area.

“each jurisdiction will be able to develop it to the level they want to.  That could be from fundraising – getting for example benches. You could have memory benches, that kind of thing.”

There is also the question of how much of what is done would be paid for through taxes and whether the public would accept that.

Staff are asked to come back with a report to the next GVAC meeting.
