Catch Or Give A Lift For Carpool Week Oct. 23 – 27

Oct 20, 2017 | 7:11 AM

Okanagan residents are encouraged to give carpooling a try next week for Carpool Week.

Vernon’s active transportation coordinator Angela Broadbent says there’s many benefits including saving money.

“Statistics Canada says that British Columbian households spend about 12 thousand dollars a year on transportation. So cutting back on vehicle use can really cut back on transportation costs as well as cutting back on emissions.”

Broadbent says it’s tough to get a handle on how many people share rides now.

“I don’t have hard numbers on how many people are carpooling through the Okanagan because many people do it through their workplace or they do it privately. We do have just over 1500 members at carpool.ca.”

Broadbent says it’s easy to sign up on carpool.ca.

“When you sign up, you can put in your preferences for your carpooling interest. You’ll get email alerts letting you know of a potential match.”

Those who sign up and register as a new user have a chance for a chance to win a $100 fuel card.
