Crews Still Working On Power Outages

Oct 19, 2017 | 1:47 PM

It’s been quite a challenge for BC Hydro crews to restore power to all of the customers who lost service as a result of Tuesday’s windstorm.

Dag Sharman from Hydro says they have 20 crews working in the Vernon area.

“We expect all customers who lost power during that storm to have their power restored at some point today. We really appreciate their patients and understanding. It’s been a major challenge for BC Hydro.”

Sharman says at one point they had 60 separate outage locations in the Okanagan alone.

“For every one of those outages, crews have to attend the area, patrol the line to find the problem, make it safe, assess the damage, and then begin the repair job.”

There are still areas of Vernon, Spallumcheen and Lake Country waiting for service to return.

At its peak Tuesday, about 37,000 customers in the Okanagan, Shuswap Thompson and Kootenays were without power, due to about 130 outages.
