Thousands Still Without Power
BC Hydro crews are still scrambling to attend to all the power outages caused by Tuesday’s windstorm in the Southern Interior.
Spokesperson Dag Sharman says there are over 140 outages in the Okanagan, Shuswap, Thompson and Kootenays, affecting about 75-hundred customers.
“We have in the Okanagan alone, more than 60 separate power outages, each of which our crews have to attend, assess, make safe, and then to the necessary repairs, so we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us,” Sharman tells Kiss FM.
Sharman says there could be more outages today, with more wind in the forecast, and some trees already weakened by yesterday’s event.
“If we do get gusty winds today, those trees may come down onto our lines,” adds Sharman.
At the height of Tuesday’s outages, about 37,000 customers were without power in the region.
