Rafe Mair, Vancouver Broadcaster Dies at 85

Oct 9, 2017 | 9:38 AM

The Twitter account belonging to Rafe Mair has confirmed the former B.C. broadcaster has died at the age of 85.

The broadcasting giant, known for not being afraid to speak his mind, was well-respected by mostly everyone in the industry.

From 1975-81 Mair was a So-Cred MLA and a strong outspoken critic of salmon farming in B.C.

He began working with CKNW (shown in photo) as a political commentator following his departure from politics.

Despite high ratings, his show was cancelled by CKNW in 2003, and he was subsequently hired at CKBD (600 AM), an oldies station, to start a morning talk show. This job ended in late 2005.

In the Fall of 2005 he became a regular commentary guest on Omni Television’s prime time current affairs program, The Standard (seen in Vancouver on CHNU-TV).

He has also written a number of books on Canadian politics, as well as a memoir released in 2004.

No other details are available.
