Jason Aldean Does Double Tribute on SNL

Oct 8, 2017 | 7:55 AM

NBC’s Saturday Night Live have always been on top of the latest news and last night was no exception.

They generally address the issues of the day in a humerous fashion, but last night they broke their tradition. They also did that after the 911 tragedy that saw Paul Simon do a tribute song.

The show opened solemnly with Jason Aldean, who was on stage at the Route 91 Festival in Las Vegas last Sunday night when the attack began that left 58 people dead and injured nearly 500.

Aldean spoke about solidarity with everyone who was hurting in the wake of the shooting. “When America is at its best,” he said, “our bond and our spirit, it’s unbreakable.”

He then performed “I Won’t Back Down,” by Tom Petty as a further tribute. Petty passed away from cardiac arrest Monday night at his home with family and friends, the day after the shooting.

Although Aldean didn’t address gun control, the SNL members did in a couple of sketches.
