Anderson Now Interim Leader Of BC Conservatives

The BC Conservative Party has a new Interim Leader.

Vernon City Councillor Scott Anderson was appointed to the position by the party’s Board of Directors at its Annual General Meeting on the weekend.

“Inside the party there is no question that I’m considered a very conservative, well not a very conservative but a small c conservative, so I think that will help continue unifying the party.”

His term will last until the party elects a permanent leader, likely not until 2018.

That’s not something he’s ready to talk about.

“Well, right now I’m putting my full efforts into being a city councillor. That’s what I’m elected to do and that’s what I intend to do.”

Anderson has been a long time member and four term board member.

He wants his constituents in Vernon to know that his commitment to them as a councillor won’t be diminished.

Anderson says the party is growing and the demographic is changing

” In 2016 when I was at the AGM in Prince George I looked over a sea of grey hair. This time I had to really look for grey hair. It’s a very much younger crowd that’s active now.”

Anderson says there has been a tremendous surge in memberships, particularly in the Shuswap area.

The hope is that surge will move into this area.

He says he thinks small c conservatives who supported the Liberals are now looking for a new home and he’s confident the British Columbia Conservative Party can be that home.

The party is expecting to run a candidate in the Kelowna West by election to replace former Liberal M-L-A and premier Christy Clark.

Anderson won;t say if that’s something he would consider but says the search is on for a candidate.

Vernon City Councillor Scott Anderson has another title behind his name.

He’s now the Interim Leader of the BC Conservative Party.

Anderson was appointed to the position in a unanimous decision by the party’s newly elected Board of Directors at the party’s Annual General Meeting on the weekend.

He’s been a long time member of the party and a four term board member.

He served on the Executive Board as a Member at Large since 2013. He has variously served the party as Chair of the Policy Committee, Election Readiness Committee, and most recently as Director of Communications.

Anderson is a business owner, recently retired (2017) military officer (Reserves), and has been serving as a City Councillor in Vernon, BC, since 2014. His education is in Political Studies with a focus on international relations, and he is currently finishing a Master’s degree in international relations at the University of British Columbia, preparatory to pursuing a doctorate in the same field.

Anderson says he’s deeply honoured to be entrusted with the role, but says it won’t affect his position on council.

He will remain Interim Leader until a new leader is elected by the party’s general membership in 2018.
