BC 55+ Games a Huge Success
The 55 Plus BC Games wrapped up Saturday afternoon and by all indications organizers rate it a huge success. President Wee Yee says participants were very impressed with what Vernon had to offer during the games as well as post games hospitality.
Thursday night they got a chance to sample a Taste of Vernon and compliments were flying. Speaking of flying…the Friday night social proved to be a late nighter for some, as come closing time many had to be asked to leave. Who says all 55+ people tuck in early?
About 36 hundred participants took part in 27 sports this past week in Vernon, Coldstream, Armstrong and Spallumcheen. Yee says the event will leave a lasting legacy in the community such as new equipment at the Athletics Park, new bocci courts, $3000 worth of three dimensional targets for the Armstrong Fish & Game Club , the local table tennis club benefited and so many more.
Now comes the part when they review their finances for the games and measure the profits. Fifty percent of that will go to support the Games and the other fifty will go towards grant applications made from supporting sports organizations in the area.
