Fire Evacuees Get Access To Donations

Jul 21, 2017 | 1:29 PM

Eight-hundred-and-61 fire evacuees from the Cariboo region have now registered at Vernon’s Emergency Social Services reception centre.

That includes 79 people on Thursday.

The City of Vernon says evacuees can access donations at the gym of the Salvation Army House of Hope o 32 Avenue, behind Staples.

The donations include toiletries, clothing, local produce and groceries, and other items.

“Please bring proof of registration from the ESS reception centre, which is located in the Dogwood Gym in the Vernon Recreation Centre on 37th Avenue,” says a City release.

Donations for evacuees continue to be accepted by the Salvation Army which can be dropped off Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Please specify that the donation is for fire relief when dropping off items to ensure they are directed toward evacuees.”

The Salvation Army can’t accept any food items not prepared in a commercial kitchen that has Food Safe designation.
