Update: Man Dies In Vernon Crash

Jul 19, 2017 | 1:00 PM

Update 1 pm:

A 31 year old man believed to be from Kelowna died in a crash in Vernon Tuesday night.

RCMP say the man was driving a stolen 2007 GMC Sierra that collided with a Honda motorcycle driven by a 19 year old Vernon man at 20th Street and 47th Avenue around 9 pm.

“The impact occurred at the controlled intersection which caused the truck to leave the roadway, flipping over into a nearby creek,” says Cpl. Dan Moskaluk. “The truck driver was ejected from the truck and located deceased in the creek. The motorcyclist was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries in serious but stable condition.”

Moskaluk says a second motorcyclist who was riding with the injured rider, witnessed the crash.

The investigation into the incident continues.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of the truck may have failed to stop for a red light at the intersection,” says Moskaluk.

Anyone with information on the incident or any witnesses are asked to contact Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 or via Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
