New Hotel Planned For City

Jul 18, 2017 | 10:13 AM

There appears to be a demand for more hotels in Vernon.

The city’s economic development manager Kevin Poole says they recently had an application for a Best Western Premier Hotel at 5350 Anderson Way.

That’s in addition to an earlier announcement of a Four Points Sheraton and Convention Centre planned for 5400 Anderson Way.

Poole says over 220 building permits have been issued this year, totaling 68 million dollars.

“Building activity remains strong in Vernon for the first half of 2017, albeit down from 2016,” says Poole in a Development Activity Update to council.

One hundred and 3 single family residential units have been started this year, worth $38.4 million, up from 74 units and $26.1 million to the same point last year.

The Hotel Room Tax — officially called the Municipal Regional District Tax — is tracking 2.6% lower than 2016, but revenue figures only go to April of this year.
