No Saturday Pickleball in Coldstream

Jul 17, 2017 | 6:27 AM

Pickleball players in Coldstream still won’t be able to use the Mount Ida courts on Saturdays.

A request was made last month to drop Friday to allow Saturday play.

Mayor Jim Garlick says after surveying area residents, happy with the status quo, the District decided to reject that.

” I think the reason being that things have been working up there fairly well as the neighbours, they are at least accepting. We haven’t had a lot of complaints about it.”

Garlick says there were some concerns about Saturday noise and traffic.

“There have been some problems as far as people not being quite as police as they should be when dealing with one another at the courts. We don’t want that to escalate by just changing the situation.”

Garlick says he’s hopeful new facilities going in at Marshall Fields will help.

He says the District does plan to see how it can develop more courts.

“We’ll move along and like I say we need to develop more facilities for pickleball and I think that will help relieve the pressure on things.”

He admits it won’t be easy because most parks are in residential areas and noise is an issue.

The Mt. Ida courts are open for pickleball Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5 pm.
