Latest Wildfire Numbers

Fire crews are trying to take advantage of milder, less windy weather the next few days.

Kevin Skrepnek from the BC Wildfire Service has the latest numbers.

“We’ve got 159 wildfires burning across the province. That includes 17 new fires Sunday. Happy to report, none of those 17 are considered major fires at this time,” says Skrepnek.

There has been 657 fires this season (since April), burning 188,000 hectares, and costing $90 million.

Skrepneck says about 3,000 staff are working on the fires.

Fifty fire specialists and support staff from Australia will arrive in BC this week to help out.
