Shooting Incident Sentence

A man will have to spend another 25 days in prison for his part in a drug related shooting incident in Vernon.

26 year old Adrien Dziedzic plead guilty to three weapons charges after a shotgun was fired in a unit of the Green Valley Motel in August 2014 over a drug dispute.

Five people were in the room at the time, but no one was injured, and it’s not known who actually fired the shot.

Dziedzic carried the gun to the motel with two other men. It was inside a black duffle bag.

The incident led to two of the people going into Polson Park and gun shots being fired, but Dziedzic was not involved in the shooting.

BC Supreme Court Justice Gary Weatherill concurred with a joint submission on sentencing from the Crown and defence.

Dziedzic was given a total of 26 months in prison, but given time and a half credit for time already served (765 days), he will be out of custody in 25 days.

He will be on probation for two years after his release, and will be banned from using firearms for life.

“I’d like to say how deeply and truly sorry I am. I hope to never be before you again,” said Dziedzic to the judge in court Friday. “I’ve hurt everyone I have loved. My life expectancy is not long (he has a heart condition). I may need a third heart surgery. I don’t want to die behind walls (in custody).”
