Cadets Back For 69th Summer
The grounds of the Army Camp south of Vernon are busy again, with the 2017 edition of the cadet training centre.
About 1,500 individuals aged 12 to 18 from Western and Northern Canada will be here to take courses over the summer.
Captain Morgan Arnott says there is a wide range of programs.
“This includes drill ceremonial courses, music courses, fitness and sports, marksmanship, outdoor activities and our course general training.”
Arnott says another 170 staff cadets will be on hand in leadership roles.
Arnott says there are more females taking part this summer.
“The ratio of females to males is increasing. Yes it’s still predominately males, but there is actually quite a few more females.”
Canada’s defence minister Harjit Sajjan was expected to visit the camp to meet with the cadets this afternoon.
The camp has been training cadets since 1949.
