Coldstream Council Reviews Pellet Plant Permit Change

Coldstream Council has heard from Pinnacle Renewable Energy about a permit change needed for its Lavington pellet plant.

Pinnacle wants to improve its re-circulation system to improve emissions and upgrade its bed dryer to provide greater prevention against fires

Coldstream Mayor Jim Garlick says the city has a couple of questions.

” We asked was there a way we could keep their emissions lower. Could they come up with another solution to reduce the fire risks and keep their emissions at the level that they are at now.”

Garlick says there would be a slight increase in emissions but would still be below the requirements of their permit.

” And what we’re saying could it be left the same because what they’re forecasting is their emissions will remain low under the permit as it is now and we’re saying why not just leave it that way.”

Garlick says Coldstream will send a letter to The Environment Ministry asking for constant monitoring not just the one year it said it would do.

” What we’d like them to do because of this change to the permit, continue monitoring in the area just to make sure there aren’t any problems.”

Pinnacle says there’s nothing for the public to be concerned about.
