Repairs Underway To A Vernon Sinkhole
It’s one thing for motorists in Vernon to be dodging potholes but sinkholes have a whole deeper meaning.
City Works crews are working on repairing a sinkhole that appeared on 42nd Avenue just east of the Highway on Saturday.
Tanya Laing-Gahr from the City of Vernon explains about the healing process…
” We expect it’s going to take about a week to repair and during the repair process we’ll be looking into what the causes of the sinkhole are. At this point we’re not sure what it is that caused that but we do suspect it has something to do with all the wet weather we’ve had for the past few months”
She says these aren’t a common occurence, but it’s hard to predict what’s going to happen during a thaw after a winter like what we’ve just gone Through.
“And that’s one of the things with these kinds of situations. We can’t always anticipate that they’re going to occur. But we do know that the ground is shifting underneath us so the city is doing everything it can to be on top of it.”
One vehicle sustained minor damage when its left front wheel plunged through the hole.
