Property owners in Lake Country will be facing a 3.23% tax increase this year.
Council passed 2nd & 3rd readings of the budget Tuesday night for a budget that includes a 1.5% hike for the transportation for tomorrow program for roads and 1.73% increase for general taxation for everything else.
Chief Financial Officer Tanya Garost notes the hike is higher than last year.
“On the average house which is $634,000 these days in Lake Country that equates to $61.”
Garost says 1.5% will be for the transportation for tomorrow program and 1.73% is a general tax increase.
“The  transportation for tomorrow covers all of the roads projects and the 1.73 is for everything else.”
Garost says it also includes a 3.75% growth factor with Lake Country still one of the fastest growing municipalities in BC.
“That which comes with new growth like that, we need new services and we need additional staff to be able to support that population growth so the growth is paying for extra services and extra staff.”
The budget will be adopted February 7th.
