MARJORIE JEAN DARROCH
March 24, 1930 – June 4, 2021
Jean Darroch was born on March 24, 1930 in Nipiwan, Saskatchewan, one of six children. She was educated in Saskatchewan and put herself through university to obtain a teaching degree. She taught school in Saskatoon, Watson and Prince George. She became a district consultant in Prince George and was responsible for the creation of central libraries.
In Prince George, she met the love of her life, Ross Darroch and they were married on August 19, 1953. They had two children, Greg in 1958 and Cathy in 1961. The family bought and operated 5th Avenue Bowladrome as well as many other business ventures until 1973 when we moved to Vernon where mom and dad purchased and operated Darroch Shoes until their retirement in 1997.
Mom was very active in service clubs, Kinettes and Rotary, as well as bowling, skiing, curling, swimming, playing bridge, socializing and loved anything musical and theatre. She and dad loved to travel and were fortunate to travel to many countries during their time together.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Ross Darroch in 1998, her parents Guy and Evelyn Wallace, her siblings, Bill, Ken, Audrey, Helen and Bev, as well as brother-in-laws, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children, Greg (Laurie) Darroch, Cathy (Paul) Davies, 5 grandchildren, Angela (Derek), Ian (Rebecca), Chris (Kendra), Brad (Aimee) and Ryan (Erika) and 7 great grandchildren, Hudson, Lilly, Brooklyn, Peyton, Grayson, Aurora and Novalee.
Mom passed away at Noric House on June 4, 2021 at the age of 91 after a long and hard fought battle with dementia. The family would like to thank the staff at Noric House for the wonderful care they provided. As a result of COVID restrictions, the family will be holding a private service.
