Predeceased by 3 siblings, grandson Daniel in 1969, a daughter Karen in 1979, her first husband Graydon Montgomery of 51 years and her second husband Eric Moore of 14 years.
She is survived by her children Barbara Schimpl (Gary), Robin Montgomery of Edmonton, Alberta, Joyce Kidner (Fred) of Nanaimo, B.C. Jeff Montgomery, Vernon. B.C.
Also survived by Grandchildren, Heidi, Tanya, Chris Schimpl, Natasha Montgomery, Keely, Liam, Allie Kidner, 7 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by stepchildren Mike, Robert, and Jim Moore and their families.
Ludell was born in Bishopton, Quebec in 1925. She met and married Graydon Montgomery in 1943. They made a living for their 5 children through mixed farming and harvesting maple syrup. Ludell was very involved in her church and farming community. She became known as the “roadrunner” as she was often driving people without a car or helping out family. She taught herself to sew and became an excellent seamstress sewing clothes for her daughters. She was an avid reader all her life and was even able to read and knit at the same time! After the older children left home Ludell and Graydon took in teenage boys from fishing villages on the North Shore of the St. Lawrence giving them a loving home and support while they attended school, how they loved her home cooking and her homemade bread!
In 1976 Graydon and Ludell sold the family farm and moved to Vernon to be close to their eldest daughter. They became very involved in the church parish of All Saints Anglican where Ludell gave many volunteer hours. In these years she also took on a job of being nanny to several Vernon families who she remained in contact with and who fondly remember her. Ludell was well known for her homemade donuts, her Quebec tourtiere and springtime sugaring offs with Quebec maple syrup.
After Graydon’s death in 1994, Ludell remained very involved in her church community and it was here she met and fell in love with Eric Moore, a recent widower. They married in 2001 and had some very happy year’s together, entertaining friends, taking Alaskan cruises and travelling throughout B.C. and across Canada. As her eye sight began to fail. Eric became her eyes and kitchen helper. They lived independently until Eric’s passing in 2015, at which time Ludell became a resident of Creekside Landing.
Ludell was a kind and loving person , always generous with her time – entertaining, helping others, spending time with family, taking friends to church and out for drives. She had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews in Quebec and she will be fondly remembered by them along with their stories of her being their feisty aunt. It was a huge loss for her when she had to give up her driving license due to macular degeneration yet she still loved being out on the road, enjoying the scenery and bright colours which she could see in a limited way. She always looked forward to friend’s visits and spent many hours listening to her audio books.
We children treasure the memories of our growing up years with such a loving mother.
The family would like to thank Creekside Landing staff and Dr. F. Deetleffs for the care given her the past 6 years.
