Jacqueline Carol White, 1949-2020
We are heartbroken to say farewell to Jacqueline (Jacquie) Carol White, who passed away on Friday October 30th at Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 71. Jacquie succumbed to complications from Hepatis B, which came on in March. She contracted this disease while volunteering in Africa. All who knew Jacquie are in disbelief that such a vibrant, healthy, young, and kind person has left us prematurely. Jacquie found comfort from her Ekankar community in her final days, and her family are grateful.
Jacquie was pre-deceased by her Father Robert Arthur White who passed in 2014, Mother Doreen Taylor-White who passed away in 2019, and by her first husband Richard. She leaves behind her sister Glynis and brother Brian, and nieces and nephews Eric, Genevieve, Lena, and Mark, and great-nephews and nieces Cillian, Elias, Chloe, and Emily.
Jacquie was born in Sussex, England and emigrated with her family to North Vancouver in 1958. She attended Canyon Heights Elementary and Handsworth Secondary Schools, then Capilano College before going on to earn a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Lethbridge. Jacquie was an accomplished artist and had many showings of her work over the years.
Jacquie came to Vernon in 1983 and fell in love with the town immediately. Jacquie had many close friends in Vernon and worked in art therapy with North Okanagan Community Life Society and later at Bryden House for several years, where she found her work very rewarding.
The family is deeply grateful for the support and care shown by Glynis and Jacquie’s friends during her last days, and for the excellent care she received from the staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. A celebration of life was held at Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park on Saturday, November 7th, as this was one of Jacquie’s favorite places.
In lieu of flowers the family is encouraging donations to the Ekancar Foundation in Jacquie’s memory.
