It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ida Stephenson on July 1, 2020 in Kelowna, BC at the age of 90. Predeceased by her husband Fred who passed away in 1985 and siblings Rudolph and Edna. Married in 1948, she lived most of her life in Alberta and then retired to the Okanagan in 1985. Left to mourn are 5 daughters and spouses Evelyn (Doug) Wakefield, Caroline Dacyk, Lynette Nichol, Darlene Stephenson, Susan (David) Detlefsen, as well as 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and brother Ernie (Kathy) Riemer.
Ida had a life filled with her family, relatives and numerous friends. Ida was a farmer, a General Store owner/operator, and a Canada Post employee. She was a long-time member of the United Church and it’s United Church Women’s group, both in Fairview, Ab and in Vernon, BC. Ida also volunteered at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital (and was a Hospital Auxiliary member) for 34 years and accumulated 11,000 volunteer hours within the hospital. She travelled many places around the world, was a regular member of the bowling, curling, golfing clubs, and supporter of local Community concerts and theatre groups. If she could possibly walk to her destination, rather than drive, she did it. Ida was loved by many and will leave a big void in her community as well as her family and friends lives.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date at Vernon Trinity United Church. Details of when a celebration can be held will be posted on Castanet (under Our Town heading) and Vernon Matters websites. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
