It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a larger than life influence in our lives.
Husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Alf passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, June 6, 2021. He is survived by his wife Marion of 66 years, daughter Donna (Joe), sons Doug and Bruce (Terri). Grandchildren Amber and Justin; Carleigh (Shane), Haileigh and Matthew; Josh (Jodie) and Marci (Ben) and 5 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother Walter (Joan) and sister Beverley, sister-in-law Lorraine and several nieces.
Alf was born and raised in Vernon. He grew up on a dairy farm in the South Vernon area and when he and Mom were married they lived close to the farm. They then built a new home across the road and have resided there ever since.
Dad enjoyed everything hockey and was very happy to volunteer with the Vernon Winter Carnival PeeWee tournament for many years.
Hunting and fishing were also his passion and his stories from those adventures were abundant. He was so happy to have taken all his children and grandchildren fishing in his boat off of Bamfield on Vancouver Island. Vernon Motor Products was his place of employment for over 40 years and many lifelong friendships were formed over that time.
Sitting beside the lake, enjoying a cool beverage and sharing time with family brought him much joy. Papa’s comments and antics entertained everyone. He will live on in our hearts and memories.
A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations in Dad’s memory to the North Okanagan Hospice Society would be gratefully accepted (www.nohs.ca).
