It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our father Frank Grothoff at the age of 93, on September 26th in Vernon, BC. Even though we knew this day would come, you are never prepared for the profound grief it brings. Grief is the price of love.
Frank was born and raised in Germany along with his parents and 1 brother he was very close to. As a young adult he dreamed of sailing and jumped at the chance at the age of 26 to head to Canada and fulfill that dream. Shortly after arriving, he met our mother, Inga-Britt at a Swedish dance in North Vancouver. And there began a life-long love story.
They married in 1960 and had 4 daughters. They resided in North Vancouver for many years until Frank moved the family to the Okanagan in 1979 leaving behind some very close friends and memories.
Dad spent a year designing and building their forever home on the property along with horses. He took great pride in his home and family. Frank and Inga-Britt started a vacation rental and horseback trail/riding business once all the daughters had left home. They enjoyed many guests over the years and some became life-long friends. Frank enjoyed challenging projects, skiing, horseback riding, dancing and country music. He spent many hours at the wood lathe, designing and creating objects such as candelabra’s and ornaments.
He is survived by his four daughters; Annette (Don), Nadine (Elroy), Stephanie (Jason) and Christa (Joe); Grandchildren; Axel, Ryley, Tyler, Kaitlyn and Ashton. He is predeceased by his parents, brother and a granddaughter Alexa. He is recently predeceased by his life-long love, his wife Inga Britt. They couldn’t bear to be apart.
To honour our father’s wishes there will be no formal funeral. We will celebrate his life and our parent’s legacy with a private gathering with family and close friends.
