Coldstream Council Set For Pay Increase

Jul 11, 2018 | 6:22 AM

Coldstream council members will likely be getting a pay raise next year — sort of.

Council has approved three readings to add 23-thousand dollars to the 2019 budget for council remuneration.

Mayor Jim Garlick says it’s to compensate for federal tax changes.

“What happened before was there was a tax exemption on one third of the remuneration (which is ending Jan 1, 2019), so adjustments have been made for that,” says Garlick.

Under the plan which still needs final approval, the six councillors will each get $15,000 a year starting in January, while the mayor’s pay will increase to $34,000.

“That (change) goes to the next council. We have a policy that the existing council puts in what the next council will receive as remuneration.”
