A section of Kalamalka Lake Road in Vernon has reopened to two-way traffic for the first time in three months.

Work on a project from Browne Road to the Alpine Centre has concluded, allowing vehicle traffic to use the route again as normal.

“Businesses along Kalamalka Lake Road up to the Vernon border will be fully accessible from Vernon,” says a City news release.

That section of the road has been closed to most traffic, other than local residents, since April, for a project to add a multi use path.

The road in that area still has construction on the Coldstream side, from Alpine Centre to College Way, for a project which is expected to continue until mid July.

Dave Hrabchuk, project manager from LB Chapman Construction, says they finished in 12 weeks, about a week ahead of schedule.

“I’m really happy with it. I think our crews and our sub trades, we just had a good project team and things look really good. We hope the city is happy with it too,” says Hrabchuk to Beach Radio News.

Hrabchuk says the project was “very close” to being on budget.

“We know lots of people need to use this road. It rides nice, it looks nice, and it’s been a long time coming with the delay with the utilities last year.”
