Coldstream Council has agreed to help pickleball players who want more time to play at Middleton Mountain Park.

The courts are currently open from 8am to 5 pm Monday to Friday.

Mayor Jim Garlick says families want to be able to use them on weekends.

“Individual play, like not organized groups, so large groups coming there, but to individuals coming out and using it and also in the evening later on to eight o’clock or so they would come.”

That would begin on July 15th.

Garlick says council wanted to give the neighbouring community time to hear about the move.

“We probably will hear some push back on it. This is a concern some of council members that the way you do this is important, giving that ability to those people to voice their concerns again.”

Garlick says he hopes users will be respectful of the people living around the courts and keep the noise down as much as possible.

He also hopes the new facility at Marshall Field will take some of the pressure off.

“Removing the large group use of courts in the community. There won’t be quite as much of it because when you have a large number descending on one area of the community it’s a little more disruptive.”

Jim Garlick says the district wants families going out to use the park and it’s a good way to promote health in the community.
