Armstrong Looks Strong In Annual report

Jun 28, 2018 | 6:23 AM

The City of Armstrong’s annual report is out for 2017 and the mayor believes it’s a good summary of how the city has developed.

Chris Pieper says 2017 was a challenging year but meeting those challenges has made the city stronger.

“If anything through all of our flooding issues we realized the impact that Mother Nature can have on a community that’s out of our control and how it brought the community together to help each other to get through it.”

Pieper says the city has reinforced the need for creek maintenance and that will be the number one priority going ahead.

He added that growth was better than expected.

“I think it exceeded our planning. We had over fifty housing starts last year, which was huge for our community. We probably average over the last five to ten years around 25 or 30.”

Pieper says that helps local schools and businesses to support the growth that is required for stability in a city.

He says another major move was opening a remodeled and up-to-date fire hall and the hiring of a full-time fire chief.
