Armstrong Boil Water Notice Lifted

Interior Health’s boil water notice for Armstrong has been lifted.

It was put in place May 31st because of a high coliform count.

Public Works Manager Doug MacKay says tests yesterday were good.

“We submitted biological samples to our testing agency and we got results back late last night and sent those results off to IHA this morning, and had a conversation with IHA and IHA has agreed to rescind the boil water advisory.”

The city had been using well water because of turbidity in Fortune Creek and high manganese and iron content in the well water likely diminished the effect of chlorine.

The city has now gone back to being supplied with water from Fortune Creek.

“And May 31st we started to get Fortune Creek Water Treatment plant back up and running. It takes a bit of time to get it going to sort of  the capacity that we can actually switch off the wells.”

MacKay says he’s confident the system is going to be fine.

The only hitch may be heavy rain that could result in turbidity issues.

He says as far as he is aware, no problems cropped up in the community while the boil water notice was in effect.
