Power will be off for 23 customers along Kalamalka Lake Road in Vernon from 2 to 6 pm today, to allow BC Hydro to make repairs to a power pole near 14th Avenue.

A truck ran into the pole Wednesday night, damaging it, and cutting power to 3,000 customers from about 5 pm to 8 pm, when service was restored.

Dag Sharman from BC Hydro says right now, they have a Hydro truck holding up the damaged pole, and they need to make permanent repairs.

“We can’t leave that in place, and so we have to get in there. We’ve made a plan to do the work as quickly and as safely as we possibly can,” Sharman tells Beach Radio News.

Sharman says many of the impacted customers are businesses in the area across from the BC Hydro office, who have been contacted and notified of the outage.

“We appreciate the understanding of our customers.  Obviously this is beyond our control. This is a motor vehicle accident that caused this damage, but regardless, it’s an inconvenience for our customers.”
