Spallumcheen Considering Joining BC’s Residential Recycling Program

The Township of Spallumcheen is considering whether it should join Recycle BC’s Residential Recycling Program.

Mayor Janice Brown says reycling fees charged by the private hauler the township uses are going up substantially.

“We are one of the only communities that isn’t in the Recycle BC with the blue bin. We just have the bags and because the regulations have changed and because we have private haulers our recycling has just about doubled.”

The cost per property was 35 dollars and 17 cents.

“It has gone up to about 60 dollars a property in Spallumcheen a year and not everybody is using the private pickup. A lot of them haul it to the landfill site themselves, but everybody pays.”
