Critical Stage For Armstrong Flood Threat

May 10, 2018 | 12:25 PM

The next 48 hours will be critical for the flooding threat in Armstrong.

An evacuation alert covering about 60 homes along Meighan Creek on Willowdale Road, Patterson Avenue and lower Becker Street, remains in place.

Emergency program coordinator Warren Smith says city crews were able to divert water from the main creek flow which prevented significant flooding in the downtown core and residential areas

“Water levels remain stable at this time but it is anticipated with increasing day time temperatures we will see rises in creek flows later today and tonight,” says Smith.

Access to the City via Hwy 97A off-ramp at Pleasant Valley Rd has been reopened.

“Members of the public, observing or working near creeks are reminded that creek levels may rise quickly and should exercise caution at all times around the fast moving water and creek banks,” says Smith.

Sand and bags can been filled, at no cost, at the Public Works Yard located at 2950 Patterson Avenue and at the corner of Bridge Street and Okanagan Blvd.
